Default "Deep" cleaning

Hi
Our bikes (star trac spinners) are looking pretty bad. Rust spots and just dirty in places.
I volunteered to come in and do some extra cleaning.
Any suggestions about what to clean them with? The website for star trac just says non-abrasive cleaner.
Is there anything safe that will polish them up a bit?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

If he doesn't respond to this thread, send a private message to Realspindoc (Jeff Wimmer) he can tell you the best thing to use.

Cleaning and polishing them will be two different products. I'd use something like windex or similar to clean (except for gears or moveable parts of course). that's a non-abrasive cleaner. Then a metal polish to, well, polish, the frame.

Agreed - Jeff Wimmer is the man.

If your bikes are bad (paint worn/faded and lots or rust) over the next week or two I would check if you have any students who work at a car dealership or in a body shop. The guys/gals who do dealer prep have lots of secrets on how to clean-up painted surfaces and bring them back to life. Body shop techs can also give you suggestions on how to revive old paint; and/or how to deal with the rust on both the frame and flywheel.
